frenz.comarticlesThis newsgroup would cover the following: MUSICIANS including Brian "Tim" Finn, Phil Judd, Geoffrey "Noel" Crombie, Anthony "Eddie" Rayner, Paul "Emelyn" Crowther, Jonathan "Mike" Chunn, Geoff Chunn, Wally Wilkinson, Mike Howard, Miles Golding, Robert Gillies, Neil Finn, Nigel Griggs, Mal Green, Paul Hester, Nick Seymour, and Mark Hart. BANDS and PROJECTS include: Split Ends, Split Enz, The Mullanes, Crowded House, Noel's Cowards, Schnell Fenster, Brainwaves, ENZSO, Finn Brothers, DeadStar, The Swingers, ALT, Largest Living Things, and Deckchairs Overboard. Also included are solo and production projects of the abovementioned musicians. For the purposes of this RFD, the term "Frenz-related" refers to the abovementioned musicians, bands, and projects. As of 21 July 1997, the fan club had just under 11,000 members worldwide. The official Crowded House website runs the "Tongue In The Mail" listserv, which as of 21 August 1997 had 1,283 subscribers (over 1,400 when American colleges are in session) and an average of 25 posts daily. rec.music.artists.crowded-house would work in conjunction with the Frenz-related websites, chat rooms, and mailing list to create a support and information center for fans and those who may not wish to be part of a mailing list. Most importantly, there currently is no specific newsgroup for any of these musicians, bands, or projects. A July 1997 search in the current DejaNews database for Frenz-related band names and members yielded 546 posts, most of which went to rec.music.misc, alt.music.misc, and rec.music.progressive. Most posts were about Crowded House. CHARTER: rec.music.artists.crowded-house rec.music.artists.crowded-house is designed as a place for announcements and conversation about past, present, and future projects that involve members of Split Enz, Crowded House, or any groups or projects that include at least one abovementioned musician. On-topic posts include: ~ the FAQ will be posted weekly for those who may not familiar with the tone of the group or what are appropriate posts. This FAQ will also cover some basics about the bands and musicians so that the same questions are not asked over and over. ~ questions, answers, announcements, and opinions on songs, albums, musicians, and performances ~ announcements of internet resources containing Frenz-related material ~ "for sale", "for trade", and "wanted" posts are allowed if the subject begins with "WISHLIST:" and is only about Frenz-related items. The WISHLIST from Frenz.com will be posted weekly, so newsgroup visitors will be encouraged to have their items posted to Frenz.com's WISHLIST page instead of filling the newsgroups with requests. Off-topic and inappropriate posts include: ~ presentations of multi-level-marketing schemes; offerings of sexual services, materials, or correspondence; ads for cheap or psychic phone service or any product or service not related to Frenz-related musicians. Spammers will be reported. ~ posting or attachment of any files or images. Links are allowed, but anyone interested in distributing Frenz-related files will be instructed to send these privately to people who express interest. ~ discussion of other musicians, Australasian or not, who have NOT been part of any Frenz-related band or project ~ discussion of peripheral musicians outside of the work they did with Frenz-related members and projects (ie: discussion of Bones Hillman's work in The Swingers is relevant whereas discussion of his time as a bandmember in Midnight Oil is not) ~ postings about where recorded Frenz-related music was heard (ie: "My local radio station played 'Something So Strong' today.") ~ employment ads or requests for information from people interested in emigration to Australia or New Zealand - these will be referred to the appropriate aus. or nz. newsgroup ~ SELLING FAN CLUB CDS OR PHOTOS OR COPIES OF THEM IS NOT ALLOWED (fan club mandate) ~ flaming, disrespect, and bickering are completely unwelcome While we expect the newsgroup to be social and friendly, we do not want personal posts or threads that are blantantly not about the musicians and their music, ie: "Do you like basketball?" or "Can anyone send me a good guacamole recipe?"Updated 12:15p MST (-0700) 21 February 1998.If there are any problems with this site, please contact webmaster@aswas.com.
