why an auction?
frenz.com is not financially supported by anybody and is a completely FREE fan-owned and run site. this means any money not raised in the auction comes out of the pocket of webmistress Debbie Levitt. previous auctions have paid for the creation of the discography database, the forum, the email mailing list, and part of the year's webhosting. in order to bring exciting new interactive features to the site, we need frenz.com funds. we do have many mighty ideas a-brewing (sorry, they're secret for now), but we would need major funds to produce the web-based features we're dreaming of.
our last few auctions have not only been great successes, but a lot of fun. many thanks to all who participated, especially those who donated items. if you have a frenz-related item you would like to donate, please email me.
on behalf of everyone who has worked and will work on frenz.com, we hope you will help support our site by participating in our auction.
with gratitude and love,
Debbie Levitt, your frenz.com webmistress
what about other online auctions?
while it's true that some good items can be found through online auctions, we want to warn you that there is a lot of crap out there too. we have found that some CDs being sold on online auctions, and mostly on eBay(TM), are copies of CDs. as these are made differently than those made by the record company, they may only last 5 years. someone, who will remain anonymous, actually offered me one of these for a previous auction as something I should sell, and I turned it down. in fact, it was offered to me as "Waiata," and when I got it, I was very surprised to see it was a CD with a bad injet-printed label (that looked nothing like any Enz album) with no insert or anything.
I'm not going to tell you to never buy anything on the internet again. but we do want to warn you about fake CDs, CDRs, and bootlegs that are not worth your money mostly because of how they are made. make sure if you are interested in an item that you find out (before you bid) if it is the real original record company pressing and the condition it is in to make sure you are not getting something someone burned on their CD machine. please also remember that these CD copies are illegal.
